[ARCHIVED] Staying Safe on Halloween in South Jordan

Halloween is a cherished tradition in South Jordan, where residents go all out with festive decorations, turning neighborhoods into spooky wonderlands. However, with increased foot traffic, creative costumes, and now the added presence of e-bikes and electric scooters, staying safe on Halloween night requires extra caution.

Costume Safety

When selecting costumes, prioritize visibility and comfort. Choose costumes with reflective materials or add glow sticks, reflective tape, or LED lights to ensure drivers and others can see you. Avoid long, flowing costumes that could cause tripping or get caught in scooter or bike wheels. Ensure masks fit properly and do not obstruct vision.

Staying Visible & Traffic Awareness

South Jordan’s streets will be bustling with trick-or-treaters, and the excitement can sometimes make us forget basic traffic safety. Always cross streets at designated crosswalks and look both ways. Carry flashlights or wear headlamps to illuminate your path and alert drivers to your presence.

Candy Caution

Parents, remind your children not to eat any candy until it has been inspected at home. Watch out for opened or suspicious-looking treats and be mindful of allergies when sorting through your candy haul.

E-Bikes & Electric Scooters

With the growing popularity of e-bikes and electric scooters in 2024, there’s an added layer of safety to consider. Riders should slow down, especially in crowded areas, and keep an eye out for children who may unexpectedly dart into the street. Pedestrians should also stay alert, as scooters can approach quickly and quietly.

Halloween is a night of fun and frights, but by staying aware and making safety a priority, we can ensure it remains a night to remember for all the right reasons.
