South Jordan Celebrates Completion of Bangerter Highway Interchanges

Home Posted on November 25, 2025

Mayor Dawn R. Ramsey joined state legislators Senator Wayne Harper and Senator Dan McCay, along with Bluffdale Mayor Natalie Hall, and Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs, to celebrate the Utah Department of Transportation’s completion of four new Bangerter Highway interchanges, including the long-awaited 9800 South interchange in South Jordan. The openings mark a major milestone in UDOT’s long-term plan to remove all stoplights on Bangerter Highway and transform it into a free-flowing corridor.

Construction on the latest interchanges began in 2023, and with work now complete, UDOT engineers estimate that drivers will save up to eight minutes of travel time. Bangerter Highway is now stoplight-free from I-15 in Draper to 4100 South in Taylorsville, improving safety, travel reliability, and mobility for the more than 60,000 vehicles that travel the corridor daily.

For South Jordan, the celebration held special significance. All three of the City’s Bangerter intersections—9800 South, 10400 South, and 11400 South—are now fully complete, marking the end of the planned Bangerter interchange construction within city boundaries. South Jordan worked closely with UDOT to ensure each project used an underpass configuration, keeping the local east-west streets at ground level. This approach improves sight lines for businesses, enhances aesthetics along key commercial corridors, and maintains better access for residents and visitors.

During the celebration, students from Elk Meadows Elementary and Elk Ridge Middle School had the opportunity to walk across the new pedestrian bridge at 9800 South and participate in hands-on learning activities. Their involvement underscored the safety benefits the new infrastructure brings to families and schools.

With South Jordan’s interchanges officially finished, the City looks forward to safer, smoother, and more predictable travel for everyone who lives, works, and visits here.
