Tis the season to #ShopSoJo!
First, I want to wish all of our residents a happy holiday season. As we welcome everything that makes this time of year meaningful, I want to take a moment to celebrate our local businesses. These businesses are more than just places to shop, they make invaluable contributions to our local economy and enhance our city’s unique character.
Nationwide, small businesses have a significant impact on local economies. The United States Small Business Administration reports that there are 34.7 million small businesses across the country that represent 99.7% of firms with paid employees. When you spend locally, 68 cents of every dollar stays in our community.
Our local businesses offer rewarding employment for our teens, seniors, and everyone in between. Sales tax revenue, which makes up 40% of our general fund, is an essential resource for keeping South Jordan the city we love by supporting parks, streets, and city services. That’s why shopping, playing, and dining here in South Jordan matters.
This fall, we launched a social media video series to feature our local businesses, and one of the highlights has been our “Dine with Dawn” series. I’ve enjoyed getting to know our local business owners and managers and sharing their stories with you. We hope you’ll join us in supporting these businesses, not just during the holidays but year-round.
I encourage our local businesses to share their stories with us on social media using #ShopSoJo, and I invite you to follow and support these businesses. Every purchase, every meal, and every dollar spent here in South Jordan makes a difference for our economy and the wellbeing of our community.
Have a wonderful holiday season and a very Merry Christmas!
